2025 Philippine National and Local Elections: What You Need to Know
Introduction
The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has released the schedule for the upcoming 2025 national and local elections in the Philippines. The elections will be held on May 12, 2025.
Positions to Be Elected
The following positions will be elected in the 2025 elections:
- President
- Vice President
- 12 Senators
- 300 Members of the House of Representatives
- 81 Provincial Governors
- 81 Vice Governors
- 750 Provincial Board Members
- 1,634 City Mayors
- 1,634 City Vice Mayors
- 15,341 Municipal Mayors
- 15,341 Municipal Vice Mayors
- 42,036 Municipal Councilors
Schedule of Activities
The following is the schedule of activities for the 2025 elections:
- October 12, 2024: Start of filing of certificates of candidacy (COCs)
- November 13, 2024: Deadline for filing of COCs
- January 10, 2025: Start of campaign period
- May 11, 2025: Election Eve
- May 12, 2025: Election Day
Qualifications for Voters
To be eligible to vote in the 2025 elections, you must be:
- A Filipino citizen
- At least 18 years old on or before Election Day
- A resident of the Philippines for at least six months immediately preceding the election
How to Register to Vote
If you are not yet registered to vote, you can register at your local COMELEC office. The deadline for registration is October 31, 2024.
What to Expect on Election Day
On Election Day, you will need to bring the following to your polling place:
- Your voter's ID card
- A pen
When you arrive at your polling place, you will be asked to present your voter's ID card and sign the voters' list. You will then be given a ballot and a privacy screen. You will need to fill out your ballot in private and then return it to the election officials.
What to Do After You Vote
After you have voted, you can check the results of the election on the COMELEC website or on the websites of local news organizations. The official results of the election will be released within 30 days of Election Day.
