Packers cut Anders Carlson
The Packers didn't re-sign longtime kicker Mason Crosby after the 2022 season
Green Bay has made a big change at the position
The Green Bay Packers will have a new kicker in 2023, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. The team released Anders Carlson on Tuesday, August 27, just weeks before the start of the regular season.
Carlson missed a key field goal attempt in the NFC Divisional Round against the San Francisco 49ers last season, which contributed to the Packers' loss. Mason Crosby, who had been the Packers' kicker for 16 seasons, was released after the season and signed with the Las Vegas Raiders. Carlson was expected to take over the starting job in 2023, but the Packers have decided to go in a different direction.
The Packers have not yet announced who will replace Carlson, but they have a few options on their roster. Rookie kicker Ramiz Ahmed and veteran kicker Dominik Eberle are both on the team's 90-man roster. The Packers could also look to sign a free agent kicker, such as Matt Ammendola or Tristan Vizcaino.
